Start from the number, not the hours

Three ways to get there

Pick the one that fits your week rather than the one that pays the most per hour.

• Three full Saturdays at eight hours. Simple, and the weekday stays untouched.
• Two Saturdays plus two evening shifts.
• One weekend a month at a higher paying trade, if you have a skill or a truck.

Set aside the tax before you spend it

Nothing is withheld from this money. If you want five hundred to keep, aim closer to six fifty and put the difference aside as you go.

That is the single mistake that turns a good side income into an April problem, and it takes one transfer to avoid.

Pick work that ends when it says it ends

For a supplemental day you want a defined job: a move, an unload, a cleanup, an event setup. Those finish and you go home.

Open ended work is fine when it is your whole income and bad when you have somewhere to be on Monday.

Set your days so the offers fit

Your profile carries the days you can normally work, and employers see them before they message you. Turn off the days you are at your regular job.

That way you are only offered what you can take, and you never build a habit of declining, which is what makes employers stop asking.

Three jobs is the hard part, then it gets easy

The first few are the slowest to get, because you have no reviews. After that employers start messaging you directly, and filling three days a month stops taking any effort at all.

Push through the first three and the rest of the year mostly arranges itself.
